Connect & Converse With The Sisterhood

Did anyone see the premiere of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, I watched it and boy was it entertaining....but as someone who knows quite a few football player's wives, I thought most of these women were extremely pretentious and materialistic. What do you all think?

I haven't watched it yet but I did DVR it mostly because the reviews noted that these women were not really "real" or "housewives" and that their materialism was ridiculous in this age of economic uncertainty. But truth be told, this was filmed a good six months ago. I will check it out this weekend and let you know what I think.

I didn't see it yet but my close friend has been complaining about it being ridiculous. She said the women were not really representatives of elite Black women. I have only seen the commercials myself and no I'm not impressed.

I think it's real. Having millions is not the same as combined income of $50,000 or even a combine income of $250,000. This is just how the other half lives. Imagine, never running out of money, even if only for a couple of years. I've met people in my life, born into that type of lifestyle and they just don't fathom the thought of not having anything. Hence the term "Haves and Have nots". Sure theyre materialistic over the top, but I'm not going to point fingers. Paris Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Kim Khardashian and alot of others do it too and youre not complaining... So why not the sisters? I say "Go sista girls! Spend that money! As long as youre not spending mine, who cares?"

I hear you, but these women were not born with this kind of money so it's differnt. Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian were BORN with all that money so they have a sense of entitlement, these women assumed that entitlement once they married money which makes for some pretty interesting personalities. I think they are over the top because of how they felt to the need to explicitly illustrate how much they love to spend their money. I guess if I was on the show, I'd probably be more like Lisa, she doesn't really flaunt her money, some of the other girls like Kim and Sheree, are ridiculous with their spending :), but you're right it doesn't bother me, just interesting to watch.

That point does have a little validity to it- but I have a sneaking suspicion that all one has to do is get their hands on that kind of money and magically- 'Entitlement' is born! That 'Entiltlement' is probably manifested out of ability, capability and seemily, never ending pockets. Or I could argue, out of reputation, perception, expectation, lifestyle, social class.... Come on- no matter how the money was acquired, they are now members of American Upper Class. If they dared to walk in Target or Walmart, you'd be ashamed at how Black people with money are represented on TV. They have every right to live and spend the way they want. They got what every gal dreams of- A rich husband!

this is true, I do know a few very rich women who shop at Target and Walmart, and one of them gave me a Bed Bath and Beyond g/c for my wedding with some expired coupons which I was so embarrassed about. I had to tell the cashier that it was a wedding gift and the person who gave it to me really is filthy rich, just really cheap, lol :)
