An Open Letter to Oprah Winfrey (From Virginia DeBerry)

In a moment of frustration Virginia wrote an open letter to Oprah, and shared it with a few writer friends who are going through the same thing we are. Now the letter is starting to go viral--getting a lot of repostings and inclusions in blogs, newsletters and on Facebook, so we decided we should continue to share it. http://twomindsfull.blogspot.com

We are thankful for you and we wish you a joyful Thanksgiving!

Virginia, this is an amazing letter. I hope it finds its way to Oprah but even if it doesn't it charges those of us who want to see stories that feature women we can relate to better support your products (and talk them up) and perhaps educate books stores about 'cross-promotion'. I shudder to think that when the dust settles all we'll have is street lit.

Thanks so much. Things are so bad, that Library Journal just did a list of the best books of 2009 and included in their "genre fiction" categories like Romance, Thriller, Mystery, Christian --and STREET LIT. No Af-American, just Street. What's happening is truly frightening and while I have no illusions that my letter will actually reach Oprah, it might reach someone who can help shine the light on this situation. Because with magazines like the Library Journal jumping on board, it's only getting worse...
