Connect & Converse With The Sisterhood

Ok so I'm from Newark, NJ and in the last five days there has been at least 10 random shootings leaving a few dead, a few wounded, and even more scared to death although crime is down by 40% since last year this time. It all started Friday, Oct. 24, my pay day. As I went out to pay bills and go food shopping, I was met with the rumors -fact and fiction on what had happened withing my last hour of work. At that very moment, I made a vow to stay in the house until Sunday when it was time for me to go to church. My good friend Zakia had been calling me off the hook but I was busy so I didn't answer. When I finally called her back, she told me of the Hudson family's tragedy.
Oh wow, Jennifer Hudson's mom and brother were shot to death in Chicago. I am still in shock even more so then the shootings in my hometown because I am used to the violence there. But how in the world, on God's green Earth did Jennifer Hudson lose her mom and brother in a shooting? She is famous, she has money, she's not from the hood anymore, she was supposed to be safe and saved from this.
Ok so I'm sure we all know the rest of the details- especially about her 7 year old nephew! How did this happen? Was this supposed to happen? I'm sad for Jennifer Hudson and her family. If I had lost my mom, one of my 3 brothers and one of my 7 nephews in the same type of tragedy then I would have just as good as dead myself. How do you feel about this? I've cried for them and now I pray for them. But what comes next?

wow Cee Jay Ess u said it best and I agree wholeheartedly. Cause if William Balfour was jailed fot attempted murder, then she should have known that he was indeed capable of murder!

My heart goes out to the Hudson family. I really can't comprehend such horrific, devastating tragedy happening to anyone on this earth. It really hurts to think that a mother could love a baby, change his diapers, give a loving touch, a warm bottle and bath and he grow up to be like William Balfour. Somehow, we all know this could have been avoided. I'm sure it hurts to remember the introduction of this animal to your loved ones. 'But- Julia!' Why on earth would she bring this type of person into her single parent self and family's lives? What could she have been thinking of? Did she think he would be a good role model for her son? Teach him to be a man? Maybe love her and be true? For the life of me, I can't understand why women are attracted to men with felonious pasts and/or no history of a job! What's this all about? The odds say that most people like him, can't be reformed, not that that's what prison does anyway. There are literally millions on top of millions of men out there. They come in all shapes, colors and sizes and have a host of different careers. Is a Loser Man, better than no man at all? Not so fast bloggers, you know it's not low self-esteem, cause there's probably a good number of you in these last resorting, felonious relationships that think the world of yourself! All of you in this situation need to take a good, long , hard look at your surroundings and stop thinking it could never be you. In short-it can! As long as theres a hardworking, jail-free janitor, messenger, cowboy, Indian, cook, baker or candlestick maker or any other decent hardworking man out there, you don't have to choose the loser, who's own mama wont even visit him in jail. Get a grip on life and stop looking for the cool, cute guy with the pants half off his butt, who never takes you anywhere, cause he doesn't have an income. "Ain't ya getting tired of dropping him off to his Parole Officer?" Don't none of his coolness, cuteness or jailhouse muscles pay bills or buys food, and it certainly doesn't help to morally, build the generation after us. Very rarely will anything good come out of these unions. What's this all about?

I don't know what it's going to take for these senseless killings to end. I really think it's a sign of the times. We just have to pray and ask for God's protection. He promised that when evil abounds, grace would abound that much more. We just have to trust Him at His word.

Three cheers for the chocolate girls! I encountered this mentality when I moved to Chicago. I was amazed that people still had this mindset. It really hurts to see that as black people we really haven't come as far as most of us believe we have. A r…
