ITALY IS NICE TO VISIT BUT LIVING HERE IS A WHOLE NOTHER STORY

Okay I know I should be grateful and what not for being able to live in another country but I guess since I was in the military and going to different countries was part of my job, it just really wasn't a big deal. I've been out since 07. I meet my husband in late 07 and he's active duty. Now were here in Italy and so far I'm not impressed. First off they way you have to get your gas hooked up is so ancient. You have to wait on the corner of the street for a specified timeframe until the gas dude comes by and turns your gas on. I was waiting out there for like 2 hours in the freezing cold feeling like a hooker trickin for gas!!! Every car that came by I shaking and shivering hoping it's the gas dude. As long as the military has been here they couldn't have figured out a better way to handle this. Then you don't get your bills on a monthly basis, you get them every other month or just whenever. It takes 2-3 hours to wash half a load of clothes because the water pressure sucks here. Italians take a 3 hour lunch and the whole town shuts down at 8pm. So for folks thinking it would be soo great to live in another country, think of all of the inconveniences you'd have to deal with. We're in a great location to travel but when you come home you have to deal with actually living here.........

Look Cee Jay Ess, I can dwell on whatever I want. Like I said before I've traveled the world, so being here isn't a big to me, I'm very cultured, how many countries have you lived in, not visit, lived? When you visit somewhere you can sight see and not have to deal with day to day inconveniences like I have to. I can not enjoy living here if I want to and can vent about it if I want to, this is my opinion of living here not yours!!!! I'm not knocking your opinion of Italy so don't knock mine.

Ancient? Italy? Have you ever heard of Julius Caesar? lol... I lived in Italy for six years. Make the best of it. Get over the fact that your not in America and thats just the way it is over there. Theyre not about to start letting the US government, dictate how theyre gas and electric companies are ran. Water pressure sucks for washing machines because most people dont rely on machines to wash their clothes. They hand wash them themselves. Italians have been taking Siesta for thousands of years. Why change because Americans dont do it? Most mothers also stay home with the kids and grocery shop everday then cook three meals a day and keep the house spic and span clean. It IS great to live in another country and learn their culture and habits. Americans are spoiled. We have machines and drive thru windows and a host of other things that make life so easy for us. This has made us lazy and has forced women to have to go to work and leave their kids in the care of someone else. We also have world record breaking numbers in teenage pregnancy, murders, rapes, low education, high unemployment, poverty and a truckload of other stuff, that I'd rather trade for low water pressure and a late gas man. It is what it is...

Dont dwell on these small things. Italy is no different than most parts France, Germany or England. Practically all of Europe is like this. Theyve been getting along fine, with no complaints for thousands of years. Enjoy yourself while your there. Dont leave this earth without seeing an opera or Italian ruins, just so one day you can say "I've been there". Embrace it all. You'll be surprise how many people, later in life will be impressed with the knowledge that you been "somewhere".
